American country singer-songwriter who rose to fame for her hit 1982 single "Nobody," which reached number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100, and number 1 on the Billboard Country Singles chart. She was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance, and she was named Female Vocalist of the Year by the Academy of Country Music that year. 

Before Fame

She began singing and performing at age 3 when a local church asked her to sing at an event.

Trivia

Her music video for her 1997 single "The Matador" is credited as the first concept music video clip to air on Country Music Television. Her single "Nobody", and the album Just Sylvia, were certified gold records in the United States and Canada. She also releases music on Spotify, and by April 2023 had seen her page build a following of more than 90,000 monthly listeners. A few of her tracks on the page have received millions of streams as well.

Family Life

She was born and raised in Kokomo, Indiana. She'd later move to Nashville, Tennessee.
