Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist most commonly known for his distinctive bass voice. He has been the songwriter and lead singer of bands including the Magnetic Fields, the Gothic Archies, and Future Bible Heroes. He has contributed to the composition of numerous musical theatre stage productions, as well as the music and lyrics to a stage adaptation of Coraline and the score for the silent film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Before Fame

He graduated from The Cambridge School of Weston in MA before briefly studying at New York University. He was employed as an editor for Time Out New York and Spin Magazine before launching his music career.

Trivia

He wrote a book in 2014 called 101 Two-Letter Words which includes several short poems, each of which is inspired by legal Scrabble words comprised of only two-letters.

Family Life

He initially began using the spelling "Stephin" to sort his junk mail before eventually adopting it as his stage name. He met his biological father, Scott Fagan, in 2013.
