Before Fame

At the University of Hartford, he studied classical piano. He served in World War II, and went on to perform in bands and at nightclubs. 

Trivia

His full first name is Stanley, but he was best known as Stan. He recorded more than 15 individual albums. Freeman conducted Broadway concerts for Marlene Dietrich in 1967 and 1968 and provided arrangements for three of Michael Feinstein's Broadway outings.

He had two brothers.
