American poet and author who is best known for her novels "Stop Pretending: What Happened When My Big Sister Went Crazy," "What My Mother Doesn't Know" and "One of Those Hideous Books Where the Mother Dies."

Before Fame

At 17, she fell in love with making animated films. At 18, she enrolled at Hampshire College and began teaching animation to children all across the country, while she earned her B.A. degree in filmmaking and photography. After graduating she was hired to teach film at Harvard University.

Trivia

When she moved to Hollywood, she found work as an animator and later a production assistant on a Woody Allen movie. She was also a still photographer and script supervisor on Ron Howard's first film. 

Family Life

She married screenwriter Bennett Tramer, who was the head writer on Saved by the Bell. They have a daughter, Ava and a son, Jeremy. 

Associated With

She was a film editor for a John Travolta movie called Urban Cowboy. She co-edited the cult classic, River's Edge, starring Keanu Reeves and Dennis Hopper.
