Sonnie Trotter

About

Canadian professional climber who is known for his skills in multiple rock climbing disciplines and for making first ascents for several climbs. He has been featured in three award-winning films: The Cobra Crack (2006), If You're Not Falling (2008), and First Ascent (2006).

Before Fame

He began rock climbing when he was 18 years old after a trip to Rifle, Colorado introduced him to the sport. He then dedicated himself to climbing. He used his training in carpentry to help support him in his early career.  

Trivia

He is a rock climbing ambassador for Patagonia. He is also passionate about writing, photography, coaching, and living an active and healthy lifestyle. He is also known for having the first ascent of the Cobra Crack, which is considered one of the toughest crack routes in the world.

Family Life

He was born and raised in Newmarket, which is outside of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. His parents actively encouraged him to be active and sporty as a child and supported his rock climbing career. 

Associated With

He met and was mentored as a young climber by Lynn Hill. He is featured in the opening scenes of the film The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 being chased by Kristen Stewart's character Bella while free soloing.
