She was a casting director for blockbuster hits such as Jaws and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, both of which were directed by Steven Spielberg. She later worked as a location casting director for shows including Breaking Bad.

She was born and raised in Texas, but she eventually moved to New Mexico.
Trivia
She and her friend Jenny Wingfield produced the film The Man in the Moon together. Rhodes died on December 20, 2009, from breast cancer. She was featured in the third episode of the third season of Breaking Bad, I.F.T., and was remembered in the credits, with "Dedicated to our friend Shari Rhodes."
