Sergey Mironov

About

Russian politician known for being the leader of the left-wing opposition party A Just Russia in the Russian parliament since 2006. He ran for President in the 2004 and 2012 general elections. 

Before Fame

He was a member of the Komsomol, or All-Union Leninist Young Communist League, in 1967. During the 1970s he was a member of the airborne troops of the Soviet army. He later went on to work as an engineer-geologist. In 1994, he was elected as a deputy of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly.

Trivia

He was one of the Russian politicians sanctioned for his involvement in the 2014 Crimean Crisis. In 2014, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry launched an investigation for his alleged financial support for the armed insurgents.

Family Life

He was born in Pushkin, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. He has been married three times. His third wife is Mironova Irina Yurievna who is also a politician in Russia. They have a son named Jaroslav and a daughter named Irina.

Associated With

He was awarded the Order For Merit to the Fatherland by President Vladimir Putin in 2008.
