Before Fame
She started singing at age 5 after her mother encouraged her talent. She was trained in Carnatic classical music, Hindustani classical music, and Western vocals. Her first performance on stage was at 7-years old and at 8, she started singing with a children's troupe, performing over 500 shows with the troupe by the time she turned 18. In 2011, she started singing in Bollywood films while pursuing her engineering degree from St. Francis Institute of Technology. In the year 2012, she started uploading her singing videos to YouTube. Her songs garnered the recognition of composer, AR Rahman.

She has sung in Hindi films, Always Kabhi Kabhi, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, The Attacks of 26/11, 24, and Mohenjo Daro. She has also sung worked on commercials for the deodorant brands Cinthol and Eva. She is multilingual and sings in English, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Bengali, Punjabi, Gujarati and Kannada. In November 2017, she was awarded Best Singing Sensation at the Asia Vision Movie Awards for the song "Afeemi" from the film, Meri Pyaari Bindu.

She was born in Mumbai to a Malayali family. She credits her mom, Razia, for supporting her singing dreams.
