The historical figure who helped lead explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark across the Louisiana Territory to the Pacific Ocean. She was just a teenager at the time of the expedition and she travelled thousands of miles with Lewis and Clark.

She was taken captive by another Native American tribe when she was about 12 years old.
Trivia
In the year 2000, the US began minting dollar coins with her likeness on them to honor her. She has also had several parks named after her. She was a member of the Lemhi Shoshone tribe. The National American Woman Suffrage Association of the early 20th century adopted Sacagawea as a symbol of women's worth and independence, erecting several statues and plaques in her memory, and doing much to recount her accomplishments.
