A British author best known for his works of humor, trivia, biography, and art history, he published the popular Top 10 of Everything series, as well as the Great Wonders of the World books. His other works include Potty, Fartwell & Knob (2007) and Dear Cats: The Post Office Letters (1986).
Before Fame
He was an anthropology student at Durham University. He began his publishing career in the late 1960s, working as a writer and researcher for Reader's Digest Books and Newsweek Books.
Trivia
His many art history books on Impressionism include The Impressionists’ River and Van Gogh’s Provence.
Family Life
He was born into a family of silversmiths and goldsmiths. He was married to Caroline Ash until his death in 2010 from a heart attack.
