Actor who is known for his appearances as the character M in the James Bond film franchise. He began his tenure as the character in the 1983 installment Octopussy. He, however, had first appeared as the character Admiral Hargreaves in the 1977 film The Spy Who Loved Me.

Before Fame

Prior to his work in the James Bond film franchise, he made a career out of playing bit parts in TV and film. He made his professional acting debut in the 1948 TV film Good Friday as Herod.

Trivia

He would go on to play M, officially, in 4 films. His final appearance came in the 1989 installment Licence to Kill. He appeared alongside Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton during their tenures as the titular British spy.

Family Life

He was born and raised in Swanage, Dorset, England. On November 11, 2003, he passed away there, also, at the age of 82 due to complications from cancer.

He was later succeeded as M by Judi Dench, who made her debut as the character in the 1995 James Bond film Goldeneye.
