British actor best known for his roles on the TV shows Doctor Who and Emmerdale Farm and for his smaller roles in the films Chemical Wedding (2008), Twilight of the Gods (2013), and Star Wars: Rogue One (2016).
Before Fame
He attended Oxford University where he obtained a Master's degree in history. He trained as an actor at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). His breakout role in television was in the soap opera Crossroads in the year 1969. He then became well known for playing Captain Yates on Doctor Who beginning in the year 1971.
Trivia
He wrote the book Forest Wisdom: Radical Reform of Democracy and the Welfare State. He wrote multiple stage plays. He starred in the music video "The First Days of Spring" for the band Noah and the Whale in the year 2009.
Family Life
He was born and raised in Marylebone, London. His father was a surgeon. He died on December 25th, 2023 after battling an illness.
