Renato Usatii

About

Former Mayor of Bălți that was elected twice from the year 2015 until the year 2021. He was later elected to be the Leader of the Moldova populist political party named "Our Party." In the year 2020, he ran a political campaign to become President of Moldova.

Before Fame

He is a graduate of the Alecu Russo State University of Bălți. He later began his political career in the year 2014. 

Trivia

Besides politics, he is also a well-respected businessman. In the year 2005, he co-founded the multi-million dollar company VPT-NN, which specializes in creating railway equipment. On October 23, 2015, Usatîi was arrested in Chișinău and charged with illegal tampering of Vlad Filat's phone, the former prime-minister who himself was arrested for corruption charges. Usatîi confessed he indeed published the phone records but that he thought it was a necessary measure in order to save the country from corruption. On October 25 of that year, he was released, though the charges were not dismissed.

Family Life

He lives in the country of Moldova alongside his wife, Anisoara. He also has a daughter.
