Famous during the 1980s as a member of his family's DeBarge soul group, this rhythm & blues vocalist and bassist was the lyricist and one of the singers of the 1982 hit "I Like It." His group's other popular songs include "Rhythm of the Night" and "All This Love."
Before Fame
He and his nine siblings grew up in Detroit and Grand Rapids, Michigan. Before forming DeBarge and bringing him on board, his elder brothers Tommy and Bobby created a funk band called Switch that signed with the Motown Records label.
Trivia
He struggled with drug and alcohol problems and entered a rehabilitation program in the early 2000s.
Family Life
After leaving Michigan, he settled in Los Angeles, California. He fathered five children.
