She rose to fame on Twitter, after appealing for help when her attempt to seek asylum in Australia failed. In January 2019, after an outpouring of online support, she was granted asylum in Canada.

Trivia
In January 2019, she was detained by Thai authorities on her way to Australia. In fear of being deported back to Saudi Arabia, she barricaded herself in her hotel room and took to Twitter. She gained worldwide attention after international lawyer Mahmoud Refaat reacted to her tweets.
Family Life
She was born in Saudi Arabia but sought asylum in January 2019. She claimed her family abused her and threatened to kill her for, amongst other things, leaving Islam, an act that is also a capital offense under Saudi law.
