Best recognized as the last ruler of the Gorkha Kingdom and first monarch of the Kingdom of Nepal. He also started the unification of Nepal.
Before Fame
His education began at age five through an appropriate ceremony. After the death of his father in 1743 AD, he ascended to the throne of Gorkha at the age of 20.

He is considered as the Father of the Nation in Nepal. He had a reputation of being a king that engaged with his people. He advocated for local production, as opposed to trading with foreigners.

He is the son of Nara Bhupal Shah and Kaushalyavati Devi. He was married to Queen Narendra of Nepal. He had three children, Pratap Singh Shah, Prince Bahadur Shah of Nepal and Bilas Kumari.
