A Confederate Army colonel-turned American author, he is famous for his Buffalo Bill series, as well as for his 1872 novel, The Masked Spy. He wrote under numerous pen names, including Dangerfield Burr and Midshipman Tom W. Hall.

Before Fame

He studied briefly at the Mobile Medical College before joining the Confederate Army.

Trivia

Following the American Civil War, Ingraham traveled to Mexico and joined Juarez's forces in the fight against the French.

He grew up in Mississippi, and he later attended a military academy in Maryland. He married Mary Brooks.
