In October of 1961, she married José Carlos Encinas Doussinague. She is the mother of Javier Bardem, as well as Carlos and Monica. She is the sister of film director Juan Antonio Bardem. Her parents, Rafael Bardem and Matilde Sampedro, were both performers as well.
