Before Fame
He played the guitar, piano, and trombone growing up, inspired by his parents' love of music. He was fifteen years old when he played in his first band, joining forces with his best friend, drummer Cassius Pereira, to form various bands. He began playing in Toronto clubs at the age of 16, quickly becoming a regular fixture in Toronto's bar scene. In 1997, he joined Jeff Healey's band and toured the world for three and a half years, playing across North America, Europe, the UK, Brazil, Finland, and Scandinavia. In 2004, he got married and moved with his wife to LA, soon landing a gig with Matthew Shafer (Uncle Kracker) and touring with him for eighteen months. In July 2010, he played with ZZ Top in Europe, and in December 2010, he played with Deep Purple in their French tour.
Trivia
He has released nine of his own albums, the first, Peace Machine, in 2009, and the most recent, Spirit Rising, during the COVID pandemic in 2020, which quickly became his most popular release to date. The album is dedicated to his father, who was instrumental in his love of music. When he released the albums Ruby Electric and Steamroller, he promoted these releases with multiple tours across Europe and the United Kingdom. He performed at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2013 in New York City at Madison Square Garden and was highlighted among the top performances of the festival by Premier Guitar.
Family Life
He is originally from Aberystwyth, Wales, but he was raised by his parents, Kenneth and Sheila, in Toronto, Canada. On December 21, 2004, he married his girlfriend, Kelly.
Associated With
In 2003, he met John Shanks in Los Angeles while trying out some amplifiers, and he connected him with Melissa Etheridge, who hired him as her guitarist for her Lucky Tour.
