About

Football player best known as a defensive end for the Denver Broncos and the University of Notre Dame. He was a member of Notre Dame's 1966 national champion team. The same year, he was a fourth-round draft pick of the Cleveland Browns but instead signed with the Broncos. In 2000, he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He became a national spokesman and fundraiser in the fight against the disease.

While at Johnstown Catholic High School, he earned the nickname "Diesel Duranko" for his playing style.

Trivia

He earned a master's degree at St. Francis College of Loretto, Pennsylvania. After his football career, he worked as a steel company executive.
