Before Fame

She studied jazz singing and improvisation at the Berklee College of Music. She was honored with a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1998.

Trivia

Her time touring with Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair solidified her reputation as a masterful live performer. In 2024, she released her 11th studio album, Lo. 

Family Life

Her mother was an elementary school art teacher and her father was a biology and ecology professor as well as a polka musician.

Associated With

She achieved great popularity when her song I Don't Want to Wait was used as the theme song for the teen drama series Dawson's Creek starring Katie Holmes.
