Paul Raci

About

American actor with a long list of roles in film and television that began as early as 1987. He gained wide recognition for his role in the 2020 film Sound of Metal. 

Before Fame

He worked as a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy and ranked as a Petty Officer Second Class. He worked on an aircraft carrier from 1969-1973 and served in two tours in Vietnam.

Trivia

His real-life experiences gave him an edge on other applicants for the role of Joe, a deaf mentor in the 2020 film Sound of Metal. He received the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actor and Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male. 

Family Life

He was born in Chicago, Illinois. His parents Laurel and Mitchell Raci are of Polish descent and were surnamed Racibożyński. His parents are deaf, and Raci was raised to be fluent in American Sign Language. Paul married Liz Hanley Raci and had one daughter named Britta. She is also a singer and songwriter with the Indie Band It's Butter.
