American-British musician who became best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the rock band Interpol. Prior to his start with the band, he released a solo album called Julian Plenti Is...Skyscraper in 2009.
Before Fame
He studied English and comparative literature at New York University. After graduating, he worked at magazines such as Gotham and Interview. He later took a data entry job at the Scholastic Corporation. In 1997 he ran into fellow NYU undergrad Daniel Kessler, who asked him to join the band he had started with Carlos Dengler.
Trivia
He has also worked as a hip hop DJ under the pseudonym DJ Fancypants. In 2020, he joined the band Muzz; their first single was titled "Bad Feeling."
Family Life
He was born in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex to English parents but they moved frequently for his father's job. They moved to Michigan when he was 3, to Spain when he was 12, then to Mexico where he finished high school. He dated supermodel Helena Christensen for several years.
Associated With
As a solo artist, he has worked with RZA, Talib Kweli, and El-p. In 2021, Interpol teamed up with David Lynch to launch their collaborative work from 2011 as eight NFTs.
