Before Fame
He attended St. George's School and The Slade School of Art. He was a conscientious objector during World War II, working as an agricultural laborer for three years.

Family Life
He was the eldest of four children born to Thomas Milner Heron and Eulalie Davies. His first daughter became an architect, and his younger daughter grew up to be a sculptor.
