Before Fame
He initially learned the drums without an actual kit, putting in what time he could on those of his friends. He played with his good friend Jim James in his first band, and although they promised never to be in a band together again, they would reunite in My Morning Jacket.
Trivia
He attended the University of Louisville in the late 1990s, but a combination of disinterest and the opportunity to work with My Morning Jacket prematurely ended his academic career.
