Before Fame
In 1873, he emigrated to the United States and lived in Detroit with his cousin. He'd work at the city's meat market in 1876; in 1880, he got the idea for starting his own meat business.
Trivia
His company was a sponsor at the German exhibition at the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893.
Family Life
He had two brothers, Gottfried and Max. In 1887, he married Louise Greiner, they had three daughters and a son named Oscar G. Mayer Sr.
