Before Fame
She relocated from Greece to the United States on a Fulbright Scholarship and studied architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. Later, she pursued a degree in creative writing at the University of Oregon.

She founded Freehand, Inc., a Cape Cod training program for women artists, in the 1980s.
