Before Fame

At the age of 13, she wanted to be a rapper and a dancer. She was born in New Jersey but raised in Norway, and relocated to New York because she wanted to live in a big city. She uploaded her first YouTube video in March 2015, the music video for "Damn, Gravity."

Also an actress, she has appeared in the Norwegian dramas Thelma and Exit Plan. 

Family Life

She was born Kaya Wilkins and is of mixed Scandinavian and African-American descent. Her mother was a painter and her father was an aspiring Broadway actor who later wrote government policy for the U.S. She has five brothers. Her brother, Elias Jengo, and her boyfriend, Aaron Maine of the band Porches, are both musical collaborators.
