Obi Toppin

About

Power forward who was named the National College Player of the Year after a stellar sophomore season for the University of Dayton in 2019-20. Following his sophomore season, he declared for the NBA Draft. He was selected eighth overall in the 2020 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks. 

Before Fame

He had offers from Texas A&M University, Georgetown University, and Texas Tech University, but committed to play for the University of Dayton. 

Trivia

In addition to winning the 2020 National College Player of the Year award, he also earned the Karl Malone Award and the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year award in 2020. 

Family Life

He was born in Brooklyn. His father was a professional basketball player who played for the Brooklyn Kings. His younger brother went on to play college basketball at the University of Kentucky. In September 2021, he and his wife Roni welcomed a daughter.

In 2019, he became the first freshman since Lamar Odom in 1999 to be named to the first-team All-Atlantic 10.
