Human rights activist who has risen to fame as the vice president of the Defenders of Human Rights Center. She was honored with the 2009 Alexander Langer Award and 2018 Andrei Sakharov Prize for her work advocating against the death penalty.
Before Fame
She earned her degree in physics from Imam Khomeini International University before beginning work as an engineer. She later joined the Defenders of Human Rights Center in 2003.
Trivia
She was imprisoned under controversial circumstances in 2016 in Iran. She later began a hunger strike while incarcerated to protest not receiving medical care in January 2019.
Family Life
Her husband is long-time Iranian political journalist Taghi Rahmani. She shares a set of twins named Ali and Kiana with him.
