Sultan of Kelantan who assumed the title in September 2010, succeeding his father, Sultan Ismail Petra. He previously served as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong but stepped down from the position in January 2019, becoming the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong ever to do.

He spent his early years attending SK Sultan Ismail before moving to the U.K. to study at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies.

His mother is Tengku Anis Binti Tengku Abdul Hamid. He has a sister named Tengku Amalin Aishah Putri. He married model Oksana Voevodina in 2018.
