He made the Fiji Football Association multi-racial while serving as president from 1959 until 1960.

His appointment as Fiji's first ombudsman came in 1972; he retired in 1987, when he was the world's longest-serving national ombudsman.

His great-nephew was actor Ramon Tikaram and his great-niece was singer-songwriter Tanita Tikaram.
