Activist, artist, and executive director of the largest organization devoted to reproductive justice for women of color in the United States, the SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective. She has testified before the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in Geneva and became 1 of the first 2 reproductive justice leaders to speak before the Democratic National Convention Platform Drafting Committee in 2016.
Before Fame
After earning a bachelor's degree in communications from Johnson C. Smith University in North Carolina, she became the Operations Director of the Charlotte, NC Lesbian & Gay Community Center. She then co-founded Charlotte's Black Gay Pride Celebration, which helped her earn honors from the Human Rights Coalition and the National Black Justice Coalition.
Trivia
She was named one of The 100 Most Influential People of 2023 by TIME Magazine. Some of her other countless accolades include being named one of the New Civil Rights Leaders by Essence Magazine in 2014 and being included on the list of Top 40 Leaders Under 40 by The Advocate Magazine in 2016.
Family Life
She grew up singing gospel music in church, as did both her mother and grandmother.
