About
Considered one of the top Persian classical vocalists and composers of his generation, he was awarded UNESCO's Mozart Medal (in 2006) and Picasso Award (in 1999). Apart from his work as a solo artist, he performed with the Ava Ensemble, the Shahnaz Ensemble, and the Masters of Persian Music.
Before Fame
He started singing when he was just five years old and, at the age of nineteen, made his national classical music debut on Iran's Radio Khorasan station.
Trivia
Aside from his skill in the Persian Dastgah vocal music genre, Shajarian became proficient in the art of Persian calligraphy and worked on behalf of several humanitarian causes.

His son, Homayoun Shajarian, and his daughter, Mozhgan Shajarian, are among his many musical collaborators.
