Sporting legend who became the second African-American referee in NFL history in 1995. He was the first African-American referee to officiate a Super Bowl. He played running back for the Santa Clara Broncos during his college days. In 2015, he was hired by CBS as the network's NFL rules expert.

As a child, he played various sports including boxing, basketball, track, and football. He attended Santa Clara University and earned his bachelor's degree in biology in 1971.
Trivia
In 2006, he requested the NFL to refrain from assigning him to Washington Redskins games because he did not feel comfortable with the team's nickname. He was a board member of several companies including the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Diego.
Family Life
In 1979, he and his wife Wendy launched a ski accessory company named Winter Mountain. They have daughters named Drisana and Danica. His brother, Don, also became an NFL official.
Associated With
In February 2008, his judgment allowed Eli Manning's scrambling play against the New England Patriots to continue in the final moments of Super Bowl XLII.
