Artist, illustrator, and winner of 15 Hugo Awards for his science fiction, fantasy, and surrealist artwork. He was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in June 2009, becoming the first living artist bestowed with the honor.
Before Fame
He was discovered while exhibiting his artwork at the World Science Fiction Convention in 1974. His first professional gig was from Donald A. Wollheim of DAW Books illustrating "The Enchantress of World's End," a 1975 novel by Lin Carter.

His paintings appeared on the covers of countless books, including some written by the legendary horror writer Stephen King.
Family Life
His father was employed in the aerospace industry, a job that required the family to move around a great deal. He married Audrey Price, with whom he had two children.
