American boarding house owner who was convicted of taking part in the conspiracy to assassinate Abraham Lincoln. Assassin John Wilkes Booth and his co-conspirators, George Atzerodt and Lewis Powell, all visited her boarding house. In 1865, she was the first woman executed by the United States federal government. She always claimed to be innocent.
