She was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. She was one of five sisters. She is the mother of Justin Trudeau, the 23rd and current prime minister of Canada, and of journalist Alexandre Trudeau. She has five children, three with Pierre Trudeau and two with Fried Kemper. Her son Michel Trudeau died in 1998 in an avalanche when he was 23.
