English actress who rose to fame on the back of her starring role in the 1934 historical drama film Lorna Doone. She went on to give acclaimed performances in the 1943 melodrama The Man in Grey and the 1955 suspense film noir Cast a Dark Shadow. During her later career, she appeared in the musical film The Slipper and the Rose: The Story of Cinderella.
