Family Life
He was born in the very poor environment of Tsholomnqa, Cape Province. At the 2019 Rugby World Cup, South African players were invited to provide photos of their family onto the back of their jersey. Mapimpi submitted a picture of himself. When his coach Rassie Erasmus asked him why, he said he had no one left. His parents, as well as his siblings, had all passed away.
