About
Pakistani, Urdu-language poet who is best known for his philosophical poetry and ghazals. His collected works were published in 1989 under the title of Kuliyat-e-Majeed Amjad.
Before Fame
He studied Persian and Arabic at a Punjab mosque and later entered Islamia College in Lahore. He published his debut poetry collection, Shab-e-Rafta, in 1958.
Trivia
He lost his position as editor of the Arooj newspaper after the paper published one of his anti-British Empire poems.
Family Life
He married his cousin, a teacher, in 1939. The couple later divorced.
Associated With
He and fellow Pakistani poet Ehsan Sehgal are both known for their Urdu-language verse.
