Famous for Vaquero, Man on Fire, and other boldly colored fiberglass artworks with Latino and Southwestern American themes, this Mexican-American sculptor received a 1993 New Mexico Governor's Award for his artistic accomplishments.

Before Fame

After studying at both the University of Texas-El Paso and the University of Texas-Austin, he taught in the art departments at the University of Houston and the University of Arizona.

Trivia

He died as the result of an accident in his art studio: a portion of his large Blue Mustang sculpture crashed into his leg and ruptured an artery.

Family Life

His artist and fashion designer daughter, Elisa Jimenez, competed on the Fourth Season of Project Runway.
