After then-PM Boris Johnson appointed Truss Foreign Secretary in September 2021, a review of the government's official account on the photo-sharing platform Flickr revealed that since the day she had taken office, more than 700 pictures had been uploaded featuring an image of her, an average of more than four and a half a day, or about one photograph for every five hours on the job.
Family Life
Her full name is Mary Elizabeth Truss, but she has gone by Elizabeth since she was young. Her family moved to Scotland when she was four. She also spent a year in Canada. Her father is an emeritus professor of pure mathematics at the University of Leeds. Her mother was a nurse, teacher, and member of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. They were both slightly left of center, politically. When she ran for Parliament as a Conservative, her mother campaigned for her but her father declined. In 2000, she married Hugh O'Leary, an accountant whom she first met at the 1997 Conservative Party Conference. They have two daughters.
