Before Fame
He worked as a piano player on a Holland America ocean liner, the S.S. Rotterdam, when he was 18. He created the classic themes for "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis," "Daniel Boone," and many other TV shows.
Trivia
He was the musical supervisor for all three of the original "Star Wars" movies.
Family Life
He fathered three daughters with his wife Beverley Carroll. His brothers were composers Alfred and Emil Newman. His nephews were musicians Randy Newman, David Newman, and Thomas Newman. His grandson was Joey Newman.
