About
Remembered for his Welsh nationalist activism, he famously founded the Plaid Genedlaethol Cymru political organization. Also a religious leader and writer, he presided over a Baptist congregation in northern Wales and penned the popular Welsh hymn "Gweddi Dros Gymru."
Before Fame
He entered divinity school at the University College of North Wales but interrupted his studies to serve in World War I.
Trivia
He served time at the Wormwood Scrubs prison for his role in a 1936 protest against the government of the United Kingdom. Upon his release, he was hailed as a Welsh nationalist hero.

He was born in Llanddulas, Conwy, Wales, to Samuel and Mary Valentine.
