Lakshmi Tatma

About

Born with two sets of arms and legs, this Indian child made international headlines as a result of her unusual condition. Surgery to correct her disability was provided at no cost to her family by doctors at Sparsh Hospital in Bangalore, India.

Before Fame

Her multiple limbs resulted from the fact that she had developed in utero as the only surviving member of a pair of conjoined twins (the other fetus' chest and cranium had atrophied in the womb).

Trivia

Because of her goddess-like appearance (Hindu objects of worship are often depicted as having multiple limbs), she was named after the goddess Lakshmi.

Family Life

She and her brother, Mitelesh, and sister, Saraswati, were born into poverty as the children of Shambhu and Poonam Tatma.

Associated With

Sadly, both she and the American comedian known as Beetlejuice (who was born suffering from dwarfism) were offered carnival side show appearances during their childhood years.
