King Clancy

About

Defensive lefty who played in the NHL for 16 seasons with the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs. He was part of three Stanley Cup winning teams. He was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in 2017.

Before Fame

Starting in 1916 he played for Ottawa Sandy Hill in the Ottawa City Junior Hockey League. He started his NHL Career in 1921 with the Ottawa Senators.

Trivia

The King Clancy Memorial Trophy was created in his honor, it is awarded annually to an NHL player that makes humanitarian contributions off the ice.

Family Life

His son Terry Clancy played ice hockey in the 1964 Olympic Games and played for the Toronto Maple Leafs. His great granddaughter won a silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics with the Canadian national team.
