Animator and producer who gained renown as one of the co-creators of the Scooby Doo franchise with Joe Ruby. He would also go on to co-create the production studio Ruby-Spears Productions alongside his long-time creative partner Joe Ruby and continue producing animation up until his November 2020 death.
Before Fame
He broke into the animation entertainment industry as a sound engineer for Hanna-Barbera Productions in 1959. He was a friend of the son of the studio head William Hanna.
Trivia
He co-produced the Saturday morning cartoons Mister T, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and Superman, amongst others, for his Ruby-Spears Productions company. In the 1970s, he and Joe Ruby were put in charge of the Saturday morning cartoon line-ups for CBS and ABC.
Family Life
He passed away due to complications from Lewy body dementia in 2020.
