Singer, songwriter, and composer of pop music who was universally renowned for being one of the best-selling Turkish musicians of all time throughout his 40-year musical career. He represented Turkey in the 1990 Eurovision Song Contest with his song "Gözlerinin Hapsindeyim." He also released at least eight best-selling albums including "Ne Oldu Can," "Yemin Ettim," and "Son Şarkılarım."
Before Fame
He was raised primarily in the capital city of Ankara before he later relocated to Istanbul. He initially earned recognition for songs such as "Geceler," "Kar Taneleri," and "Esmer Günler."
Trivia
He performed at numerous charity concerts to spread awareness about the environment including his 1992 concert at Kizilay Square, which drew an audience of over 160,000 attendees. During his career, he won countless honors including a Golden Orance Award from the International Mediterranean Music Contest, a Golden Butterfly Award, and a MÜYAP Music Producers Association Award.
Family Life
He is the son of Süleyman Açar and Firuzan Açar. He married Nur Açar in 1973. They welcomed a daughter named Beste the following year. After their divorce in 1990, he married Lale Açar. However, the union lasted only one year. He went on to marry İpek Açar Kömürcü, and they became the parents of a daughter named Aslı Gönül before he passed away from multiple organ dysfunction syndrome as a result of small-cell lung cancer in 2015.

After his 2015 passing, multiple Turkish musical artists joined to release a tribute album called, "Kayahan'ın En İyileri No.1" in honor of his career and legacy. Some of the artists included Tarkan, Sezen Aksu, Mustafa Ceceli, and Emre Aydin, in addition to several others.
