World-renowned retina surgeon and leader in the fight to preserve and protect sight. She has published over 400 scientific articles and book chapters about topics such as retinal pharmacology, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, health care disparities and gender equity. She was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2019. She served as president of the Retina Society, the American Society of Retina Specialists, the Women in Medicine Legacy Foundation and the Board of Trustees of the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology.
